Making soda bread

How to make soda bread the Itchy way

Whilst wandering the internet stumble across a recipe and decide “I have all those ingredients and enough time”

250ml or 8fl oz semi-skimmed milk (367.5 ml)
1 tbsp lemon juice (1.5 tbsp)
170g or 6 oz self-raising wholemeal flour (250g)
170g or 6 oz plain flour (250g)
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda (1.5 tsp)

Set the oven to gas 5, 200 deg C, 180 deg C fan.

pop in to the kitchen and get started

Ahhh, I don’t have wholemeal flour. OK, no problem I use white, it’ll be fine.

sieve, sieve, mix, mix, mix

hmmm, needs more flour, that’ll be because whole meal is more absorbent then.

OK needs MUCH more flour. Never mind.

In the oven we go

Now sit down, do a spot of  crocheting.

Lose track of time, panic, run to the oven.

Oh, OK, that was ten minutes NOT thirty.

Sit back down, spot more crocheting.

Time to make tea

Oh, criky the bread.

Phew, perfect
