Turning chains

I was going to have a rant today, but, last night I discovered something amazing and would like to share.

All my years of crochet have been turned on their head, I have been misled, duped if you will about the function nay necessity of the turning chain. The very turning chain that leads so many new crocheters to wobbly edges and random increases/decreases in there stitch count. See the thing is, that turning chain is not needed.

Try it, go on, make a foundation row of SC/DC, now do not chain

Turn your work, still no chaining (yes I know it’s hard not to), place your hook in the last stitch of the row below and continue making a SC/DC as usual.

See? do a couple of rows just to be sure.

It even works for DC/TRC, when you get to the end of the row turn your work, make your yarn over, put your hook in the last stitch of the previous row and make a DC/TRC as usual.

Look, bad photography, but no chain needed.
